If you share links on LinkedIn, in emails or on WhatsApp, your analytics will often lump the visits together or label them as direct traffic. Adding UTM tags to the link fixes that, because each visit then arrives with a label saying where it came from. Fill in the fields below to build a tagged link. Everything happens in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to me or stored.
What each field is for
Source is where the link is posted, such as linkedin, facebook or newsletter. Medium is the type of channel, such as social, email or cpc. Campaign names the specific push, such as spring-update. Term and content are optional and mostly used to tell paid keywords or two versions of the same link apart. Only source is needed for the tool to build a link.
Habits that keep your reports clean
Analytics tools treat “LinkedIn” and “linkedin” as two different values, so this tool lowercases everything and turns spaces into hyphens. Pick a naming pattern and stick to it, because a report split across five spellings of the same source is hard to read. Use tagged links only for links you share outside your own site. Tagging links between your own pages can overwrite where a visit originally came from.
